James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Jimmy Roe McArthur, 82, of Malone, Florida went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born on August 6, 1932 to M.R. and Johnnie McArthur of the Neals Landing area. After serving his country in the United States Air Force for four years, he began a career in business, opening an OK Tire Store in Valdosta, Georgia. In 1964, he returned to Malone, Florida and worked at the Great Southern Paper Mill for five years. He began venturing in the peanut industry in 1970, buying for Gold Kist Peanuts. That same year, he also opened McArthur Company Inc., which he owned for 34 years. During this time, he also co-owned and operated McArthur-Croft Peanuts, Inc. with his business partner, Marjorie Croft. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving as deacon and helping others in need. During his life, he enjoyed his family and friends, traveling, and had a deep love for gospel music. He had a contagious smile and a larger than life personality. He was very sociable and could carry on a conversation with anyone he met. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.R. and Johnnie McArthur, and an infant son, Steven Rex McArthur. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Ramona; two sons, David McArthur (Jacquelyn) of Grand Ridge, Larry McArthur (Pamela) of Malone, and one daughter, Susan Mathis (Chuck) of Marianna; seven grandchildren, Joanna Padgett (Lee) of Abbeville, Alabama, Jennifer McArthur of Panama City, Jim McArthur (Damara) of Malone, Jessica Thomas (Austin) of Panama City, Shelby Mathis of Panama City, Jordan Mathis of Marianna, and Noah McArthur of Grand Ridge; two great-grandsons Hunter and Trevor Padgett; and one great-granddaughter Atlynn McArthur; two brothers, M.P. (Pat) McArthur of Lakeland, Florida and Hardy Watts(Mike) McArthur of Malone; and three sisters, Mary Lou Hughes of Winter Haven, Florida, Bessie Nieto of Malone, and Lelia Wolfe of Park Hill, Oklahoma. The Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverends Henry Fullington and John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Bascom. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in memory of Jimmy McArthur to Covenant Hospice at 4215 Kelson Avenue Suite E, Marianna, FL 32446 or to Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 6045 Highway 2, Bascom, FL 32423
