James Lamar "Jim" Swails, 86, of Marianna died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his daughters residence in Ulysses, KS.
Jim was born in Blue Springs, Alabama, September 9, 1929. Jim lived most of his life in Jackson County, served and retired from the U S Air Force after 26 years of service. Later, he retired from Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Generating Station in Columbia, Alabama. Jim was a devoted member of the Optimist Club of Marianna, member of Caverns Road Church of Christ for 37 years. He was a faithful Chipola College fan and loved going to the basketball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cary and Virgie Lee Simmons Swails.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Swails; two daughters, Cheryl Baldwin and husband, Warren of Ulysses, KS, Patricia Grigg and husband, Troy of Hartsville, SC; two brothers, Billy and Richard Swails both of Marianna; one sister, Lucile Rivers of Dothan, AL; four grandchildren, Wesley Baldwin and wife, Megan of Donalsonville, GA, Jenny Tipton and husband, Matt of Chattanooga, TN, Kristin Turner and husband, Jacob of Nashville, TN and Dainya Grigg of Burke, VA.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Caverns Road Church of Christ with Revs. Tom Bowling, Warren Baldwin & Wesley Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in Alford City Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
