James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Mr. James Robert "Jim" Chafin, Age 74, of Marianna FL went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2014, at the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A native of Marianna, Mr. Chafin joined the military in 1957 at the age of 17. He left Jackson County to travel many places over his 3 year service with the U S Air Force and 17 years of service with the U S Navy. After retiring from the military in 1977, he returned home with his wife and two children to settle down in Altha, Florida. He was employed by Auto Electric Co. in Marianna for 26 years before retiring the second time in 2003. He was an avid fisherman and loved traveling the Chipola River catching fish and instructing others on the "art of fishing the Chipola". He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and a loyal friend to all those that knew him. Jim loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at the Chafin River lot at numerous fish fry events. He was an outstanding and well respected person of the community and a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Marianna. Jim is Preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin and Johnnie Wynell Chafin of Marianna, FL; one sister, Margaret Ruth Boone and husband, Bud Boone of Marianna, Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth Jane Chafin, of Marianna, FL originally from Blountstown, FL; one son, James Robert Chafin II (Lisa) of Alford, one step-son, Steve Hall (Barbie) of Bethalto, IL; one daughter, Cindy Chafin Jordan (John) of Bascom, FL; two step-daughters, Cheryl Mayo (Ricky) of Blountstown FL and Gina Smith (Dewey) of Clarksville, FL; step-mother, Marie Chafin of Marianna, FL; brothers: Howard (Annette) Chafin, Bill Chafin, all of Marianna, Johnny Chafin (Paula) of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Sarah Wright (Ronnie) of Marianna, FL, Elsie Myrick of Chipley, and Brenda Peters of Marianna; 13 grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Also mourning his death is a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends. Funeral services will be Monday, November 24, 2014, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at Trinity Baptist Church with E.L. Howell, Revs. Roland Rabon, Ronnie Wright officiating. Burial with full military honors, given by Sneads Americam Legion Post 241, will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends Monday beginning at 1 p.m., one hour prior to services at Trinity Baptist. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 250 Williams Street NW, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303.
