Jessie M. Barber Brookins

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Jessie M. Barber Brookins, 85, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Jackson Hospital with her three daughters by her side. She was born on June 17, 1927 to Willie Richardson Barber and Fannie Laura Pickren Barber. In 1944 Miss Jessie married Robert Stanley Rice, who predeceased her. In 1949 she married Glover Benjamin (G.B.) Brookins and they were married over 50 years until his death in 2008. She retired as a comptroller from Chipola College in 1992. Miss Jessie was long time active member of the First Baptist Church of Marianna, Order of the Easter Star, Mystic Ladies and First Baptist Church Joy Club. She is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Eugene Barber. Miss Jessie is survived by three daughters, Rachel Rice Cummings and husband, Leonard, of Charlotte N.C.; Beverly Mask of Marianna; and Brenda Monroe and husband, Bill, of Tallahassee; five grandsons, Keith Cummings, (Heather), Ben Linton, (Jen), Oliver Monroe, (Karima), Matt Monroe, (Rachel), Lee Linton, (Jenny); two great grandsons, Billy Monroe and Ryder Linton; one great granddaughter Lily Monroe. Funeral services will be Sunday Dec. 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. CST at First Baptist Church of Marianna with Rev. Ken Barber, Miss Jessie's nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at First Baptist Church of Marianna. The family would like to give a special thanks to Lavell Raley, the Courtyard Staff, and Dr. Richard Christopher and Dr. Lay Tan.
