Jerry Rex Danford, 83, of Grangerburg, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at his residence in Grangerburg.
He was born September 14, 1941 in Pansey, Alabama to Lettie Mae Danford and Jesse Danford. He met his wife, Lois Ann in 1959 and the two married in January 1964. They were married for 60 years. In his early years he served in the US Air Force stationed in North Dakota.
Jerry was row crop farmer for 60+ years. He won numerous awards for Peanut Farmer of the year. He also farmed cotton, watermelons, and was well known for his cucumbers. He was affiliated with the board of directors for The National Peanut Festival for over 25 years. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for 40+ years where he served as a deacon as well as many other committees. Jerry loved to travel and explore new places. He also loved Christmas time, he was well known for his Christmas lights lighting up the hill in Grangerburg.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Danford; son, Brent Danford (Lesley); daughter, Dana Danford; grandchildren, Katarina DeAnn Davison (Davin), Mackenzie Leigh Douglas (Kaleb), and Jessi Catherine Danford; great-grandchildren, Nash and Emma Rose Davison, Bryar and Elleigh Douglas. Also, Ernesto Ayala, Julie Collins, and Dashawna Collins. Along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, October 25, 2024, at Friendship Baptist Church with Reverends Nash Wills and Ed Ham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of service.
