Martha "Jay" Lee McCaskill Hutchison Obituary Jay McCaskill Hutchison was born in Munson, Florida, on April 11, 1922 and passed away on January 23, 2008. She graduated from The Florida State College for Women with a major in Home Economics, at age 19. She married the late David Dexter McCaskill, of Marianna, Florida, in 1941. Several years after Dexter's death in 1975, Jay married Phil Hutchison of Panama City. She was one of the first female elders in the First Presbyterian Church of Marianna. Realizing a need for elder care, she and Reverend DuRant were instrumental in establishing the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center. She served as the President of the Presbyterian Women of the Church, the Marianna Junior Woman's Club and later the Marianna Woman's Club. She served on the Board of Directors for Peoples First Community Bank. She was Director for both the Panama City Artist Series and the Florida State Alumni Association. She was active on the first Jackson Hospital Foundation. An avid golfer, Jay was extremely health conscious. She enjoyed travel and especially loved vacationing at Mexico Beach, where she relished walking on the beach and entertaining friends. She took pride in her role as homemaker, and was meticulous in keeping a well groomed yard and home. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, attracting and identifying birds, and volunteering in community activities. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Dexter McCaskill, her parents Annie Powell and Herman Aston Lee, and her siblings Alma Lora Murphy, Virginia Mae Harley, Judge Herman (Harry) Lee and Dr. Robert E. Lee. Survivors include her husband, Phillip Dowling Hutchison of Panama City, her daughter Martha Jay "Macky" McCaskill Gortemoller of Marianna, a grandson, Dexter McCaskill Gortemoller (Leslie) of Panama City, twin daughters Ashley Jay Gortemoller Briggs (Andrew) of Tampa, and Michelle Lee Gortemoller of Tampa, one great granddaughter, Julia Nicole Gortemoller and two great grandsons, Dexter McCaskill "Mac" Gortemoller, Jr. and Connor Andrew Briggs, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4437 Clinton Street, Marianna, Florida 32446. A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Marianna, at 2:00 CST, Friday, January 25, with Dr. Huw Christopher officiating; James and Sikes Funeral Home directing.
