James Young "Jay" Folsom, Jr., 95 of Marianna, Florida died Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his residence.
Predeceased By his parents Dr. J. Y. Folsom, Sr. and Annie Willis Folsom Also by his beloved wife of 62 years, Hilda Davis Folsom
Survived by his daughter, Nancy E. Folsom, his granddaughter, Suzanne E. Williams and her husband, Scotty Williams, and Great grandson, Tyler J. Campbell, and grandson, Matt S. Schoenfeld. His sister, Martha Foster.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his beloved caregiver, Rene Parkhurst, who cared for him for the last 6 years. Special thank also to his caregivers Daisy Malone, June Sullivan, Jessica Gilbert, and Emerald Coast Hospice
Born and raised in Marianna, he served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific theater.
He attended Hobart Welding Institute in Troy, Ohio . Owned and operated Jay’s Welding Shop for 46 years
Jay was a lifelong member of the Marianna First United Methodist Church in Marianna. He was a Mason, York Rites, Scottish Rites, Jay was a member of the West Florida Practical Shooters
Through his life he enjoyed fishing and boat riding in the Merritt’s Millpond, Chipola River and Apalachicola River, AT one time he enjoyed hunting. He participated in competitive shooting with the West Florida Practical Shooters. He was a man of integrity and generous with his help. Jay treasured his family and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10AM Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery with David Baldwin officiating. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will direct.
Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children.
