Janice Nobles Basford, 84, of Marianna, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 after an extended illness.
Janice was born on November 30, 1931 in Jackson County to the late Moses and Rosa Nobles in Dellwood. Mrs. Basford was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She worked in food service at Chipola College and the Dozier School for Boys for over 33 years. She retired and spent her remaining years tending to her husband and family. She was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Basford; parents, Moses Harrison Nobles and Rosa Ruth Nichols, brothers William, Hinton, Homer, and Glen Nobles, and sister Ruth Nobles Pavlus.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Basford (Linda) of Marianna; five grandchildren, Jennifer Basford Gunter (Bart) of Tallahassee, Martin Basford (Tiffany) of Grand Ridge, Douglas Gwaltney (Kellie) of Atlanta, GA, Karen Gwaltney of Pasadena, CA, and Bethany Lowe (Russell) of Tallahassee; ten great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
