Skipper, 81, of Malone passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at his home after a long battle with cancer. James was born in Holmes County and lived most of his life in Jackson County, he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Marianna and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Radie Skipper; brothers, Grady and Herman; sisters, Trudell Ward and husband, Cephus, Cora Garvin and husband, Albra; two brothers in laws, Royce Corbitt and Marion Butler. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Johnnie; two sons, David Skipper and wife Tona of Marianna, Danny Skipper and wife, Gina of Malone; one daughter, Donna Hughes and husband Steven of Malone; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren that he cherished; one sister, Margie Butler of Slocomb, Al.;two sister-in-laws, Veletta Skipper of Pensacola and Bessie Skipper of Groveland, Fl.; extended family members, Tommy and Kay Griffin, Brittney, Stephanie and Kevin Griffis of Malone and Betty Skipper of Oakland, Fl. Funeral services will be conducted at 10am Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Bascom First Baptist Church with Dr. Harry Kinchen, Rev. Greg Roberts and Rev. Jack Hollis officiating, burial will follow at Bascom First Baptist Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Friday, January 25, 2008 at Maddox Chapel. Flowers will be accepted, If desired, donations made be made to Covenant Hospice of Marianna.
