James Eugene Lauen

November 17, 1917 — March 24, 2016

James Eugene Lauen, 98, of Marianna, Florida went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay, Florida.

Mr. Lauen was born in Redfork, Oklahoma on November 17, 1917, but spent most of his life in California. He moved to Marianna in 2004 and attended Eastside Baptist Church with family members. He was a 1943 Georgia Tech graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Lauen served in the US Army as a pilot flying the B24, after his discharge from the Army, he went to work as an engineer for an oil company. Later he joined the United States Space Program where he worked on the Atlas Rocket Booster Project.

Mr. Lauen was preceded in death by his parents, Henry B. Lauen and Nancy Coats Lauen, his wife, Marguerite M. Lauen, and his brother, Lt. Col. Elmer G. Lauen (USAF ret).

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Mary C. Lauen, two nieces, Gail Schinman (Gary), Lt. Col. Barbara G. Lauen (USAF ret), and nephew David J. Lauen, Sr. (Christine). Survivors also include eleven great-nieces and three great-nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
