James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel James Lee Johnston, 98, of Marianna, died Sunday, January, 25, 2015 at Marianna Health and Rehab. Mr. Johnston was born in Orange County, North Carolina, and was the 6th child of Charles Henry Johnston and Hattie Anne Smith Johnston. Except for the last few years and several years of service in the U.S. Army, he lived and worked in the Burlington, N.C. area. He retired from P. Lorillard, Inc. A decorated WWII combat veteran, he served as Staff Sergeant during the Battle of the Bulge with the 78th Infantry Division. He was preceded in death by all his sisters Fannie Byrd, Beatrice Wright, Hattie Mae Cates, Margaret Andrews, and Edna Comer; all his brothers, Glenn, Henry, Gordon, and Elwood. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Hobby Johnston in 1998. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Carolyn Hatcher and husband, Wayne; granddaughter Dawn Hatcher, her children, Brandon, Darren, and Heather Broughton; grandson James Hatcher and wife, JoLyn, their children, Claudia, Megan, and Lacy and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, NC Graveside services with military honors will be 10 am Thursday, January 29, 2015 in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC with Rev.
