James B. Conrad, 88, of Bascom died Friday, August 31, 2018 at his home.
Born in Crosby, Al, Mr. Conrad had resided in Jackson County. He was employed with the State of Florida Sunland as a supervisor and also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea and two terms in Vietnam. Mr. James served his country 21 years but perhaps his most beloved role in life was being a father and friend to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Julia Conrad; three sisters, Chrystelle Rogers, Lottie Tulley and Lucille Johnson; one brother, Chester Conrad and a daughter in law, Vickie Maloney.
His survivors include his wife, Phyllis Conrad of 50 years; two sisters, Myrtle Bonner of Tocca, GA and Gertrude Smith of Columbus, GA; two sons, Jimmy Conrad (Christina) of Bascom and Bill Maloney of Lovedale; two daughters, Kim Sumner (Billy) of Mount Airy, NC and Ivita Conrad Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC. He leaves 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Hickory Grove Church in Bascom, FL with Steven Welch officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery with James and Sikes funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
