Inez McDonald, 96, of Malone died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard.
Inez was born June 30, 1919 in Bascom. She lived most of her life in Jackson County, in the Malone/Bascom area. She was a devoted Christian woman and was a life long member of Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where she was the oldest living member of the church. Inez was the first news correspondent in Malone for the Jackson County Floridan and wrote local news articles for the Floridan and Dothan Eagle for many years. She also worked with the Jackson County School Board in Malone as a substitute teacher and teacher's assistant until she retired. She was very active in the Malone area for many years as she volunteered her time to help others. Inez loved growing flowers, working in the yard, fishing and reading. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved and cared for her family, friends, neighbors and people.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Bert McDonald; her parents, Lacey Ditty and Cynthia Ditty Holloway; her step-father, Clyde Holloway; two brothers, Leroy and Herman Ditty; one sister, Verna Jordan.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry McDonald and wife, Edna of Malone, Kenneth McDonald and wife, Frankie of Marianna; six grandchildren, Keith McDonald of Marianna, Laurie McDonald of Dothan, AL, Ashleigh McDonald, Tim McDonald and Michelle Johnson all of Marianna, Bridget McCollough of Bainbridge, GA; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Bascom. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
