Hodges Rayburn Martin, Sr.

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Hodges R. Martin, Sr. Obituary Hodges R. Martin, Sr., a resident of Marianna, Florida, died Friday, February 16, 2012, in Jackson Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Marianna. The Reverend Dr. Mark Long will officiate. Visitation will be immediately before the service at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Interment will be a private service for family at New Salem Baptist Cemetery. He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines. He retired in 1990 from Jackson County School Board where he had served for over 40 years, most recently as Deputy Superintendent. He was a long-time ordained deacon of the Baptist Church and a member of The Gideons International. He taught The Fishermen's Sunday School Class for over 30 years. He was the first president of The Chipola Alumni Association and a founding member of The Chipola Foundation. He was in the first graduating class of Chipola in 1949. He was a graduate of Troy State University and Florida State University. He was a member of the Marianna Kiwanis Club for many years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eunice Martin, Marianna, FL; four children: Dr. Sarah Clemmons (Dr. Tracy Clemmons) of Marianna; Mr. Hodges Rayburn Martin, Jr. (Mrs. Melody Martin) of Bradenton, FL; Dr. Eugenia Brawley (Dr. Glen Brawley) of Birmingham, AL; Mr. Steve Martin (Mrs. Linda Martin) of Spotsylvania, VA; his sister, Mrs. Myrtle Pelt of Blountstown, FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Lorene Crutchfield of Geneva, AL, Mrs. Patsy Ferrell of Marianna, Mr. Carlton and Mrs. Jeannie Crutchfield of Dothan, AL, Mrs. Nadine and Mr. Doug Newsome of Dothan, AL; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Hodges Rayburn (Jay) Martin, III (Lori and Parker Martin), Joshua Martin, all of Sarasota, FL, Dr. Martin Clemmons of Largo, FL, Caroline (Franklin) Johnson of Newnan, GA, Sarah Kathryn (Ryan) Dugan of Boston, MA, Audra Brawley of Auburn, AL, Madeline Brawley of Birmingham, AL, Michelle Geddes of Reston, VA, Courtney (Loren, Logan, and Gracie) Meade of Sarasota, FL, Jennifer (Mike and Mya) Gorris of Sarasota, FL, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
