Herman R. Burroughs, Jr.

Herman Ralph Burroughs, Jr, 71, of Malone, Florida, died at his residence on Friday, August 9, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. His struggle is over and he is now healed completely.

He was born in Marianna, FL, to Ralph & Ina Burroughs on November 25, 1952. In 1974, he met the true love of his life, Marie Baxter. They were marred on June 28, 1978, and lived out the duration of their lives together until her death in 2023. Together they raised one daughter, Melissa “Missy” Anderson.

Herman worked for 18 years in the Meat Department at the Malone IGA, then was a mechanic for several years, before becoming a truck driver for multiple companies. He ended his truck driving career when a stroke left him disabled.

He was a jack-of-all trades, loved tinkering on lawn mowers, small engines, and automobiles. He also had a passion for motorcycles. Along with those hobbies, he enjoyed many years as a volunteer with the Malone Fire Department, where he was one of the original founding members. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Ralph Burroughs, Sr. and Ina Ray Burroughs, his sister, Helen Anderson, his loving wife, Marie Baxter Burroughs, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Preston and Lois Baxter.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa “Missy” Anderson of Malone, FL; three grandsons, Austin Anderson of Tallahassee, FL, Preston “Reese” Beall (Sidney) of Texas, Colby Mead (Rose) of Malone, FL; one sister, Louise Peterson of Quincy, FL; two sister-in-laws, Terry Hatcher of Malone, FL and Patsy Baxter of Chipley, FL; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rusty and Mary Carroll Murdock, Tim Herring, Michele and Danny Syfrett, Michael John and Lynn Carr, all of Malone, FL and Ben and Terri Kimbrel of Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna, FL. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10 AM prior to the service.

Burial will be in Collins Chapel in Malone, Florida where he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife.
