James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Harvel Chandler, 79, of Lovedale died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 in Panama City. Harvel, born in Greensboro, GA, to Boyd G. "Duck" Chandler and Lillian Hadden Chandler on May 12, 1933, died September 3, 2012. He received a B.A. degree from Berry College, Rome, GA, in 1955 and a Masters of Edu. from Florida Atlantic U. in Boca Raton, FL, in 1970. He was married to Fay Logan in 1956 following his first year of teaching in Moultrie, GA. He served in the US Army 1956-1958. Upon returning from Korea in 1958, he joined Fay to teach in Immokalee, Collier County, FL, and remained there until retirement in 1988 when he moved to the Lovedale community. In Immokalee he was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and organist. In Jackson County he was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church. Lovedale was such a musically talented church that he only substituted as pianist or organist until he was needed full time on the organ. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Lillian Chandler Burgess; his wife, Fay Logan Chandler; two sons, Patrick Harvel Chandler and wife Angela of Bedford, TX. and Mitchell Derrick Chandler of Panama City; one sister, Winona "Winkie" Burnham and husband Don of Cottondale; four grandchildren, Logan and Abby Chandler and their mother Kristi Moseley Chandler of Panama City, Christopher and Tyler Chandler of Lovedale; one sister-in-law, Shirley Logan Tompkins of Lovedale; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harvel gladly "adopted" daughter in law Angela's two girls, Amy Thayer and Melissa Tarango and Amy's daughter Kendall and Melissa's daughter and son, Baylie and Dylan of Bedford TX. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m, Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Lovedale Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Canada officiating. Burial will follow in Lovedale Baptist Church Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
