Harriett Julia Cox Kunde, 97 of Greenwood died Thursday, July 13, 2023 at her residence.
She was born in Danburg, Georgia on October 8, 1925 to Frank and Harriett Louise Heard Cox. She was the youngest of six children. The family moved to a farm in the Kathleen community located North of Lakeland, Florida. They grew oranges and strawberries while also raising chickens and cows. The family moved to Greenwood, Florida when Harriett was in high school. Her father became the manager of a farm that was located where Sunland is now.
Harriett and Ivan Kunde were married on October 13, 1948. They adopted two children. Their two children, Van and Diane always felt like they were blessed to have been “chosen” by their very loving and caring parents.
She was first and foremost a devout Christian. She loved her Lord and Savior. She loved her church family at the First United Methodist Church of Greenwood. Harriett loved going to church functions and retreats. She taught the children’s Sunday School for many years. You could find her visiting sick church members and friends. She loved her family and was always very supportive of each one.
Harriett worked at the Greenwood Post Office for many years. After retiring she travelled the United States on many bus tours. One of her greatest joys after retirement was joining a group of her long-time friends to play Canasta, other card games, and board games. Of course, coffee and dessert were always served.
Harriett was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan E. Kunde; daughter, Diane Bailey; son-in-law, Sam Bailey; parents, Frank and Harriett Heard Cox; five siblings.
