James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Richard Godfrey Lawrence, 77, of Grand Ridge, joined his heavenly father on August 21, 2012 after a brief illness at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fl. Godfrey was born in Grand Ridge, Fl on August 31, 1934 to Porter Godfrey and Lola Lawrence. He was a native and life long resident of Grand Ridge, served four years in the United States Navy, owned and operated Doc's Auto Service and worked at Apalachee Correctional Institution. He was a life long member and deacon of Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge, Fl. He loved his airplanes and loved going fishing. He was a loving Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Ann and his parents Porter Godfrey and Lola Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; one daughter, Lisa Brown and husband, Neal; one son, Ricky Lawrence and wife, Lisa and one sister, Emma Nell Durden; three grandchildren, Lance Burdeshaw and wife, Jade, Tiffany Burdeshaw and Meghan Lawrence; three Great-grandchildren, Noah Bradley, Elleigh Cate Burdeshaw and Fenton "Fen" Ryan Beauchamp. Extended Family members; Steve Jewett and children, Karen Conner and children, Gary and LeAnn Folsom and children, Danny and John Burdeshaw and Brady Nobles and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10am on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge with Rev. Willie Butler and Rev. Dallas Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 5-7pm at Providence Baptist Church.
