James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Gertrude Smith, 80, of Bascom died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Noland Hospital in Dothan. She was a native of Houston County, Alabama but lived most of her life in Jackson County where she was an employee of Malone IGA in the Deli for a number of years. Preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Smith and daughter, Sue Lawrence of Headland, AL.. Survivors include son Terry Smith and (Sissy) of Malone; daughters, Patricia Ann Smith of Bascom, Brenda Jean Clark of Malone; good friend and loving companion Marvin Clifton, Sr. of Salem, AL.; ten grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren. three great-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Maddox Chapel with Rev. Jack Howell officiating. Interment will be in Collins Chapel Baptist Cemetery near Malone with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at 9a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
