George Raymond Welch

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel George Raymond Welch, 79, of Greenwood died Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Marianna. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, a farmer, worked for Pender Peanut Co. for 25 years and a member of The Greenwood Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Mervine Lee Welch, and a daughter, Rhonda K. Welch; his parents, James Semmie Welch and Evie Lee Welch; three brothers, Johnny Robert Welch, Hubert Earl Welch, James Edward Welch; two sisters, Vera Mae Franklin and Annie Lee Drummond; and his dog Smoky. Survivors include three sons, Steve Welch and wife, Gwen of Greenwood, Roger Welch and wife, Brenda of Malone, Roland Welch and wife, Cindy of Greenwood; one daughter, Sandra Hughes and husband, Cary of Gordon, Al.; mother of his children, Johnnie Nell Lipford; three sisters, Katherine McDonald, Gladys McDowell and husband, William, Bessie McDowell and husband, Roy all of Marianna; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Bascom with Revs. Greg Roberts and Ronnie Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
