George Randall Johnson

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel George Randall Johnson, 89, of Grand Ridge died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, after a short illness at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. George was born February 21, 1926, and was raised south of Grand Ridge; he was a life long resident of Jackson County. He graduated from Grand Ridge High School and attended Chipola Junior College. He was a proud World War II veteran having joined the U. S. Army and re-enlisting in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He worked at Florida State Hospital, Ryan's Furniture Company, Florida Gravel Company, and retired from the Florida Department of Corrections. George was an avid fisherman; he enjoyed fishing and camping with his wife, family and friends. He loved God and His Church, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Grand Ridge. George loved his family and is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nellie Elemetter Edenfield; sons Aaron Randall and wife Danye Ann of Wildwood, FL; Michael Terry and wife Debra of Grand Ridge, FL; Edwin and wife Brenda of Sumter, S.C.; and daughter Teresa Durden and husband Larry of Grand Ridge, FL.; grandchildren Nevin Durden, Eric Johnson, Jami Durden Folsom, Heather Johnson, Rebekah Johnson Stephens, George D. Johnson, Rachel Johnson Miles, Sarah Johnson, Allison Johnson, Andrew Johnson, and Elijah Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Annie Lee Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his father Marvin Brownlow Johnson and mother Hepsie P. Coxwell; his brothers M. B. Johnson and Eldridge Johnson, and his sisters Doris Chandler, Helen Johnson, Gerleen Johnson and Bulah Johnson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Grand Ridge with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, P O Box 549, Grand Ridge, Florida 32442. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
