Gary was born to Walter and Mattie Mayo Sullivan on October 23, 1945. He graduated from Marianna High School in 1963. He married Wanda Sue Rowan in October 1965, and he entered the US Army shortly thereafter. He served as a Military Police Officer until his honorable discharge in October 1967. He joined the Marianna Police Department in November 1967 where he progressed from the rank of Patrolman to Captain/Administrative Assistant to the Chief over the course of his illustrious twenty-five year career. He was an active member of the Marianna First Assembly of God Church, and his greatest joy in life was his four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Eunice, and one brother, Raymond. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Wanda, one son, James Walter Sullivan of Marianna, one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Chris VanDusen of Montgomery, Louisiana, brothers Carl (Margaret) Sullivan and David Sullivan, both of Marianna, one sister, Betty (Rev. John) Broome of Panama City, four special grandchildren, Michael, Zackary, Allison, and Nicholas, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Stephen Potter officiating. Interment will follow in Lipford Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Homes Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends Monday, December 13, from 5-7 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, 4186 Lafayette St., Marianna. The family would like to thank the Hospice of Emerald Coast, and friends and family may choose to send donations to this organization in lieu of flowers.
