Freda Rozar Payne Porter, 84, of Cypress, Florida, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, August 30, 2021, at Big Bend Hospice, Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida, from a non-COVID illness. The family is extremely grateful for the care that Big Bend Hospice provided during Freda’s brief stay.
Freda was born in Danville, Georgia, on July 26, 1937 to James A (Sam) and Katy Bell Rozar.
She was affectionately known as "Nanny" by her loving grandchildren and Freda loved that title and wore it proudly. Some of nieces and nephews “affectionately” called her “Frita” and friends and family members often called her “Freda Mae". She loved her family and was always ready for a family reunion. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile, mischievous and big heart with such a giving spirit and her love for family, especially her grandchildren and friends. Freda loved traveling with her husband, gardening, and was an avid reader and collector. She also loved spending time with her friends at the Red Hat Society and the Marianna Women’s Club.
Freda was preceded in death by her first husband, Parkey P. Payne Jr., parents, James A. and Katy Rozar; her sons; William A. Payne and Darrell E. Payne.
She is survived by her loving husband, Terry Porter of Cypress, Florida; daughter, Belinda McLane and husband, Alan of Panama City, Florida; son, Steven Payne of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; daughter, Pam Clark and husband, Darrell of Grand Ridge, Florida; daughter, Diane (Dee Dee) Broussard and husband, Brian of Magnolia, Texas; daughter, Barbie Burdeshaw and Ted of Marianna, Florida; ten grandchildren, Adam McLane, Justin McLane, Brint Clark, Nikita Clark McDougald, Trint Clark, Heather Payne Ritchie, Jessica Payne Staschke, Makayla Broussard Evanko, Tyler Broussard, Cole Burdeshaw; ten great grandchildren; sister, Rae Bryan of Tallahassee, Florida; sister Kaci Crawford and Chet of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Deward Rozar and wife Suzanne of Forsyth, Georgia; and a host of extended family and friends that she loved dearly.
A funeral service will be Friday, September 3, 2021 at 1 PM at Sneads Assembly of God Church with Revs. Juno Douglas and Kelvin Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Cypress Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Sneads Assembly of God.
