Florence Adelaide Mccaskill

Florence Adelaide "Addie" McCaskill passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 at age 86. Addie was born in Barrineau Park, Florida, on November 27, 1920, the youngest of four children born to Evalyn Adelaide Richardson McCaskill and John Jette McCaskill, Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: John Jette, Jr., Julia Elizabeth McCaskill Garraway, and David Dexter McCaskill. Addie grew up in Marianna and lived there for 36 years. She moved to Riverside, California, in 1956, where she lived for forty-seven years. Returning to Marianna in 2004, she resided at Chipola Nursing Pavilion. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marianna. Addie was employed as a bookkeeper for McCaskill Tractor Company of Marianna, and was a long-time, valued employee of The Harris Company, a leading California retail company. After she retired, she worked as a volunteer for animal welfare and served as a nurse's aide. Addie loved to travel, making many trips with her good friend, Virginia Shuster and her family, and the Riverside Travel club. She also enjoyed photography, art, crocheting, and writing, and played the piano and organ. Her sense of humor and optimistic outlook made her a joy to be around. The staff at Chipola Nursing gave her great care and loved her, voting her Valentine's Day Queen in February of this year. Volunteers of Covenant Hospice also lovingly cared for Addie. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by five nieces: Dr. Julia Elizabeth Garraway, Annapolis, Maryland, Mary Evalyn "Meg" Garraway Brown, Lanark Beach, Florida, Charlene Reed Garraway, St. Petersburg, Florida, Catherine McCaskill Garraway Higgins, Roswell, Georgia, and Martha Jay "Macky" McCaskill Gortemoller, Marianna, Florida; three great nieces: Jennifer Higgins Poindexter, Richmond, Virginia, Ashley Gortemoller Briggs, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Michelle Lee Gortemoller, Tampa, Florida; three great nephews: Robert Reed Brown, Lake Worth, Florida, Michael Reed Higgins, Washington, D.C., and Dexter McCaskill Gortemoller, Panama City, Florida; four great-great nieces; one great-great nephew; and a sister-in-law, Jay Huchison McCaskill, Marianna, Florida. The family wishes any donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 2898 Jefferson Street, Marianna, Florida, 32446 or to Covenant Hospice, 4440 Lafayette St # C, Marianna, Florida 32446. Graveside service will be held in Magnolia Cemetery, Defuniak Springs, Florida, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2007. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements.
