Flora Inez Askew

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Mrs. Flora Hall Askew, a long-time resident of Grangerburg, Alabama, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 surrounded by family and friends at Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard in Marianna, Florida at the age of 94. She was born on March 15, 1918 in Malone, Florida to the late Simon and Ada Hall. Flora married and raised her family in Grangerburg. After working for Dothan Manufacturing for twenty plus years, she assisted her husband at their family farm. Flora also worked part-time at Circle Fabrics in Dothan for several years, which she enjoyed. However, she believed her most important job and greatest accomplishment was raising her five children. Flora was a long-time and dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, Fl. She loved going to church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Flora liked spending time working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers. She also loved watching her "Crimson Tide" football team whether at the stadium or on the television at home. She is survived by her children Billy (Rae) Askew of Archdale, NC, Don (Voncille) Askew of Dothan, AL, Janice (Ed) Brazeal of Tuscaloosa, AL, Larry (Seretha) Askew of Grangerburg, AL, and Albert (Sandra) Askew of Tuscaloosa, AL; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and her sister Eunice Williams. Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by her husband Royce Askew; her sisters Jewell Rodgers, Verna Mae Arnold, Mary Agnes Hall and Murie Lee Hall; and her brothers Lamar Hall, Sidney Hall and Ben Hall. The family thanks the caring staff at Jackson Hospital in Marianna, FL. The family also greatly appreciates the wonderful and caring staff of Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard. Flora spent her last two years living there, which she greatly enjoyed. While there, she made many friends and felt loved. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm at Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, Florida on Sunday, January 13. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will direct. Due to Flora's love of flowers, the family will accept them at the service.
