Evelyn Vernita Melvin

Evelyn Vernita Melivn, 89, formerly of Alford, Florida died Monday, July 8, 2024.

She was born May 30, 1935 in Marianna, FL to William and Cora Lee Vickery. She was a proud army wife to Walter Melvin and together they had four children. They made a life together in Alford, Florida where they enjoyed their family and church. She loved to sew and spend time outside. More than anything she loved her family and spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter B. Melvin; daughter, Anita Kay Melvin O’Brien; siblings, Hettie, Louettie, William, Ruby, Mae.

Vernita is survived by her son, William Anthony Melvin (Angela), Walter E. Melvin (Connie), Victor Melvin; grandchildren, Amanda Dillion (Chad), Lacey Rende (Chris), Christian Lux (Gabby), Jacob Melvin, Andrew Melvin, Lee Melvin, Samantha Farr (Eric), Elizabeth Mercer (Phil), Travis Melvin (Casey), Alicia Crick (Taylor); eight great-grandchildren; brother, Pastor Ellis Vickery; and many friends and family who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be 10AM Thursday, July 11, 2024 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Pastor Ben Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Vickery Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
