Eva Barber Gilbert

Eva Barber Gilbert, 89, of Cottondale died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Cottondale, a homemaker, a member of The First Baptist Church of Cottondale almost her entire life. She served as a Sunday School teacher and in other Children's Ministries. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gilbert, Jr.; survivors include one son, Eddie Gilbert, and wife Oneida, of Cottondale; six grandchildren, Gina Gilbert, Jennifer Sapp and husband, Keith; Eric Gilbert and wife, Jennifer,; Mindy Purecka, Nina Bragg, Tika Gilbert; six great grandchildren, Anne Marie and Ethan Sapp, Tracen and Reina Bragg, Trayten Purecka, Zaine Gilbert; several special nieces and nephews, including Barbara Ann Elmore. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Cottondale with Rev. Jack Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Cottondale's First Baptist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to Covenant Hospice, 4440 Lafayette Street Ste.
