James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel TOGETHER AGAIN Eugenia Lanier Howell, age 92, a lifelong resident of Sneads passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Marianna. Mrs. Howell was born on April 29, 1922 in Sneads to the late Tommy and Evie Lanier. She met the love of her life CJ Howell while in elementary school. They were married in 1940 and spent 65 happy years together until his death in 2006. In her spare time she enjoyed baking and developed quite a reputation for her wedding cakes. She baked cakes all her adult life until she was 88. When asked how could you enjoy baking so much , her response was " I love to make people happy and I see the joy on their faces and the pleasure it brings them. It was worth it all. " She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Sneads Florida where she spent her life serving the Lord . Her heart was one of giving and doing for others. Her hearts desire was to give more than she received. She faithfully served the Lord as bookkeeper and secretary for 25 years. She also sang alto in the church choir for over 50 years. This brought her so much joy. She loved the way music put a song in her heart and set the stage for worship. She also loved gardening as she was a farmer's daughter. She was a charter member of the Carlisle Rose Garden Club which was organized in 1969, where she served as president for three terms. She participated in all of their projects to improve the community in which she grew up and loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Lanier, Sr. and Evelyn Dollar Lanier; her husband of 65 years, C.J. Howell; Thomas Jefferson Lanier, Jr. and special niece Shirley Lanier Parmer. She is survived by one son, Charles Jeffery Howell and wife, Belinda of Sneads; two daughters, Sherry Howell McQuaig and husband, John of Sneads, Pamela Howell Russel and husband, Leland, who reside in New Orleans, LA; four grandchildren, who lovingly named her "MEME" Johnny McQuaig and wife, Lis, Michelle Kelly and husband, Gayle, Jason and Kevin Howell; seven great-grandchildren, CJ, Tanner, Ana and Beau McQuaig, Madison, Olivia and Preston Kelly; one sister, Carolyn Bean Harding of Ocala; host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Sneads First Baptist Church with Revs. Matt Basford and Jack Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Dykes cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sneads.
