Eloise Callaway Smith, age 89, died Friday, June 1, 2007 in Marianna. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter A. (Pete) Smith, her son Walter A. (Van) Smith, and her parents Nealie Herndon and Edward C. Callaway. She was a life-long resident of Marianna and worked many years for First Federal Savings and Loan Association, now Regions Bank. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames of the XVI Century, and a past president of the Pilot Club of Marianna. She was also a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she had served as a member of the Altar Guild, a Vestry member, and Church Treasurer. Survivors are her daughter, Cynthia (Al) Smith VanVoris and husband John, her son William Edward (Ed) Smith and wife Claudia, three grandchildren Cynthia Grimsley and husband Joe, Betsy Wilk and husband Trevor, and William Edward (Pete) Smith II, a great granddaughter Ellie, and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marianna, and a reception will follow in MacKinnon Hall, to which all friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
