James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Earline Hicks Wilson November 14, 1922 ~ October 17, 2012 The word "multidimensional" hints at her spirit. Mother, sister, aunt, loyal friend, adventurer, prankster, a carnival's Electra, a traveling saleswoman, a courageous, creative, and lovely woman. This begins to describe Earline Wilson. Whether scaring off bears with her shotgun, sewing clothes for daughters and nieces, baking cakes, adoring her pets, fishing, or taking flying lessons, Earline sought to do it all-and whole-heartedly. Earline was born in Sneads but traveled the U.S. and beyond. Her first trip, at age nineteen, was a surprise, even to herself. Out for a walk one day, she accepted a ride from a friendly family and ended up hitchhiking across the country. This trip changed her deeply, creating an emotional blueprint for her life. Falling in love with the West, she lived off and on in Colorado, but sadly, the high altitude prevented her from returning in recent years. Her many adventures and challenges were chronicled in a book she and her daughter Carol wrote entitled About Earline. Earline's many losses include that of her daughter Susan in 1991. Five of her eight siblings have also passed on, including brothers Edward (Red), Melvin, John Walter (J.W.), and Jimmy Hicks, and sister Betty Wright. Her former husband, Bob Wilson of Sneads, passed in 1966. She is survived by her son, Bruce, and his wife, Marty Wilson of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandson Zak Wilson of Jacksonville; daughter Carol, and her mate, David Chrislip, of Boulder, Colorado; sister Rubye Johnson of Pace; brother Linwood Hicks and his wife, Joann Hicks of Sneads, brother Jack and his wife Mary Alice Hicks of DeFuniak Springs, and sisters-in-law Lou Ida and Willie Mae Hicks. Nine nieces, one nephew and numerous grandnieces and nephews knew her as Aunt Jean. She delighted in her three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. She taught us all about courage, determination, and kindness. These are lessons we will not forget. Services will be at 11 a.m. CST, Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Sneads First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Pope Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Sneads First Untied Methodist Church.
