Douglas Mathis, 70, of Malone died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Houston County, Alabama, lived most of his life in Jackson County where he was a retired self-employed truck driver. Preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Eliza Merritt Mathis Harlow; four brothers, James, Melton,Robert and Raymond Mathis, Sr.; one sister, Louise Hudson. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mathis of Malone; one son, Kent Mathis and wife, Lisa of Iron City, GA.; three daughters, Genell Cogland and husband, George of Bainbridge, Yvonne Parker and husband, Chad of Donalsonville, GA., Denise Fears of Malone; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Vernon Mathis of Brinson, GA., George Mathis of Apalachicola, Buddy Mathis and Thomas Harlow both of Malone; five sisters, Dorothy Ingram and Lorene Brown both of Donalsonville, GA., Nadene Jones of Eastpoint, Eloise Brown of St. Augustine and Wylene Warren of Colquitt, GA.. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Collins Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Hamilton and Ken Beard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Collins Chapel Baptist Church in Malone.
