Donald Hamilton, 78, of Grand Ridge, Florida died Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Jackson Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1944 in Grand Ridge to Aldon and Willie Hamilton. Even as a young man, Donald could more often than not be found farming with his dad. In 1964 he married the love of his life, Jearldene Mercer Hamilton. They started their life together in River Junction, Florida while he was working for Dolly Madison Furniture. Although Donald came from humble beginnings, he hustled hard to provide more opportunities and the best life for his wife and children.
After Dolly Madison closed, Donald went to work at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, where he worked for 35 years before retirement. Even though Donald had a day job, he was always a farmer. His garden and cattle herd were always kept in pristine condition and he was actively involved in church with Cypress Grove Assembly, Welcome Assembly and presently a member at Emmanuel Holiness Church. Later in life, he worked tirelessly to be a witness for God. He never missed an opportunity to share his love for people and the Lord.
One of his favorite things was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Whether it was listening to Jearldene sing, traveling, or enjoying a traditional southern meal around the dinner table, wherever his family was is where he wanted to be.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldon and Willie Hamilton; brothers, Paul Hamilton, Grover Hamilton, William Hamilton; and four brothers-in-law, who were always more like brothers, Alva, Colon, Rubin and Doug Mercer.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jearldene Hamilton; children, Keith (Cheryl) Hamilton, Diane (Kevin) Dennin, Dawn (Keith) Chambliss; grandchildren, Trevor (Katiy) Johnson, Joshua Hamilton, Payton Edenfield, Tyler Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Julia Kayt Johnson; and some very special nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Emmanuel Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Dellwood Baptist Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Monday, August 8, 2022 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
