Daniel Hubert "D.H." Broome, of Marianna, Florida passed from this life and entered eternal rest Friday, November 13, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 87. He was born on March 10, 1922 in Jackson County where he lived all of his life. He was a devoted husband and loving father to his six sons and their families. He retired in 1984 after working 32 years with Lehigh Furniture Company. He loved God and his church, the First Assembly of God Church in Marianna, where he was an active member for over 50 years serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many of those years. He loved life and people, and from his small 5 acre spread when he was in good health, he loved to garden, raise livestock and fish. He also loved music, especially the harmonica and would visit local churches where he would be asked on occasion to minister in music. He dearly loved his family and what his six sons couldn't get away with while growing up somehow became "o.k." for his grandkids and great grandkids--in other words, they had Grandpa's heart. His health began to decline in 2000 and the last 4 years Covenant Hospice stood firm and consistent with the family to give quality care. The family gratefully acknowledges Covenant Hospice, the services of the Senior Citizens and the help of Sheryl Boone and Joyce Wells in caring for their loved one. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nora Pettis Broome, six sons Wayne Broome (Dianne) of Marianna, Rev. John Broome (Betty) of Panama City, Arnold Broome (Barbara) of Wahalla, S.C., Elwin Broome (Jean) of Marianna, Rev. Larry Broome (Marilyn) of Altha, Rev. Terry Broome (Betty) of Marianna; one sister Bonnie Bush of Chipley, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church of Marianna with Revs. William Franklin and David Long officiating with James & Lipford/James & Sikes Funeral Homes directing. Family will receive friends 5 p.m., to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church in Marianna. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice 4440 Lafayette St., Suite C Marianna, FL 32446. Active pallbearers will be his six sons, Wayne, John, Arnold, Elwin, Larry and Terry Broome. Honorary pallbearers will be his nineteen grandchildren.
