James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Dalton "Preacher" Mathis, 89, of Marianna entered into eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 22, 2015. Dalton was born in Cottonwood, AL, but lived most of his life in Marianna. He served his country in WWII, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family and always loved having children around. Dalton Loved people and never met a stranger. He was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Elizabeth Mathis; parents, Benjamin and Estelle Mathis; brothers, Thad and Ralph Mathis; sisters, Nina Mae Sasser, Lila Ben Griffin, Murelle Smith, Laurie Barton and Reba Martin. He is survived by one son, Danny (Bunnee) Mathis of Marianna; three daughters, Connie Shea (Mike) of Brazil, Tami (Billy) Smith of Marianna, Carla (Brent) Brown of Mableton, GA; nine grandchildren, Jake (Brooke) Mathis, Jeff (Jenna) Mathis, Marci (Jantzen) Lord, Beca (Rafael) Silva, Ben (Amanda) Shea, Colby (Tiffany) Smith, Jill (Cory) Rasmus, LizAnn and Maddie Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Denton Lord, Aiden Smith, Sarah Grace Mathis, Ellory Lord, Clara Kate Mathis, Avery Smith, Kinley and Kylar Rasmus; two sisters, Kathryn Mayo (James) of Marianna, Joyce Sewell (Joe) of Panama City; two brothers, Rosby Mathis (Reba) of Tallahassee, Jamie Mathis (Lee) of Dothan, AL and a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Roland Rabon officiating. Interment will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. The family would like to thank Dr. Robin Albritton and Emerald Coast Hospice for their sweet touch and kind hearts.
