Corinne Hewitt Douglas, age 86, of Marianna passed away on Wednesday morning, November 13, 2013 at Signature Healthcare at The Courtyard in Marianna, Florida She was born on March 22, 1927 to Vera Dukes Hewitt and Russell Bernard Hewitt in Union County, Florida. Corinne was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Marianna, WMU, FBC Joy Club, and was FBC Flower Chairman. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. Harold Douglas, a World War II veteran. A unique celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary included a reception and a renewing of their vows on the same date, same day, same time and with the same attendants as of 50 years previously. Corinne is survived by one daughter, Linda Douglas Basford and husband, Dan of Marianna; one son, Maynard Harold Douglas and wife, Lisa of Marianna; five grandchildren: Doug Gwaltney (Kellie) of Atlanta, Karen Gwaltney of Pasadena, CA, and Bethany Gwaltney Lowe (Russell) of Tallahassee; Kristin Douglas Evans (Chad) of Panama City, Tanya Douglas McCormick (Dan) of West Palm Beach; Jennifer Barineau of Tallahassee and Martin Basford (Tiffany) of Grand Ridge. Seven great-grandchildren: Knox Gwaltney, identical twins: Ava and Eliana Gwaltney, Aaron Lowe; Bud, Sam and Jeb Basford; one sister, Shirley Jackson Falkner, of Waynesville, North Carolina, sister-in-law Lona Douglas McCormick and husband Gwenn of Penney Farms; sister-in-law Betty Smith Douglas of Williston and several nieces and a nephew. The community of Williston and Ocala was her home for many years. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Marion County. On Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. EST, a graveside service will be held at this cemetery in the family cemetery plot with the Rev. Gwenn McCormick, brother-in-law, will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Douglas' Sunday School class, Marie Hilburn, caregiver, Dr. Richard Christopher, and the staff at Signature Healthcare at The Courtyard. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions of memorials may be given to Florida Baptist Children's Homes, 8415 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee, FL 32317, or to the church nursery or library of First Baptist Church of Marianna, Florida.
