Charles W. Mershon, 77, of Grand Ridge died Wednesday Jan 31, 2024 at his home after a long illness.
He was born Jan 18,1947 in South Amboy, NJ to George and Ann Mershon. He served his country from Jan 17, 1967 til Jan 22, 1969 in the US Army as a helicopter crew chief stationed Lake Hurst, NJ, one of 5 US soldiers on a naval base. He medically retired from the Perth Amboy Police Dept in NJ in 1982. He and his family moved to NE PA where he enjoyed his children and sharing in their school experiences. In 1990, he and his wife Joanne moved to DE to enjoy a more active fishing and boating life. They opened a bait and tackle store, also getting involved with marine and hunting supplies. Selling this, they looked for a warmer climate by moving to FL in 2007.He enjoyed RV camping spending time with his children and grandchildren. He shared his love for fishing and boating with the boys and enjoyed game nights with all.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, his sister Georgiann, his son Joseph and 2 nieces.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 56 yrs, Mary “Joanne”, his children: Jill Blaisure, her husband Dean, grandsons Richard, Derek, Kyle and Zachary and their spouses, and great grandson Josiah “JJ”, Charles II, his wife Sherri, step-grandchildren Alissa and Arthur, James, his wife Barbi, grandchildren Derek and Jamie, step-grandsons Bret and Jordan, and great granddaughter Abigail, grandchildren(Joseph) Ashley, Brittany, Michael and AddyJo.
Survived by sisters Elsie(Nick), Judy, and Susan(Dan), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A member of ST. Francis of Assisi, Catholic Church, Blountstown, memorial service to be held there Thurs Feb 8 at 11 am, reception at church hall immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Jude Children’s Hospital in his honor, he was passionate about saving children.
