Charlene Pettis Polston, 87, of Sneads died Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Charlene was the oldest of three children born to Charlie and Olive Love in Winter Haven, Florida on June 15, 1937. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1955. On November 4, 1955, she married Cecil Pettis. Their daughter, Charlotte was born to them in 1956, and then a son, Kirby in 1964. She worked in the Citrus Plants, for most of her years, in Polk County. In 1980, they moved from Winter Haven to Sneads, Florida. She then worked for the State of Florida until her retirement. After Cecil passed in 2003, she married Donald Polston in 2005. Charlene attended church in Winter Haven and Sneads Assembly of God. She loved her church family and had a smile and hug for everyone. She served many roles in church, Sunday school teacher, greeter, soloist, choir member, and lead choir in her younger years. She enjoyed camping, thrift store shopping and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Polston; daughter, Charlotte and husband, Joe Smith of Winter Haven, FL, and their children, Steve Smith and wife, Julie with two children, Kinsey & Hunter, all of Marianna; Tamara Ready and husband, Ray with two children, Kelvin and Courtney all of Auburndale, FL; Crystal Williams and husband, Rayborn with two children, Trinity and Raylan of Winter Haven; son, Kirby Pettis of Bonifay FL, with two daughters, Abriana and two children, Emmett & Owen, and Gabrielle and two children, Leon and Tessa; stepson, Stefan Oliver-Polston; one sister, Shirley Eiland of Lake Wales; one brother, Charles Love of Winter Haven. She also leaves behind many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews and special friends.
Funeral services in Winter Haven, Florida will be 11:00 AM (est), Monday, July 29, 2024, at Village Church of God in Winter Haven, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Village Church of God.
Funeral services in Marianna, Florida will be 2 PM (CST), Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM (CST), Wednesday, July 31 until the time of service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
