James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Calvin Cary Crawford died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He was 78. Calvin was born and raised in Cypress. He graduated from Marianna High School, earned his AA from Chipola Junior College, and then joined the United States Air Force. After a brief return to Marianna following his military service, he attended and graduated from Florida State University. He worked at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida where he was involved with testing of monkeys and astronauts for the early space program followed by working crash and failure analysis of both fix-wing and helicopter aircraft. He retired with his masters in Materials Engineering working for the United States Navy. Calvin loved God, his family, flying, helping others, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Frances Inez Crawford; father, Wilton Jefferson Crawford; mother Mattie Lourene Crawford; and brother, James Harold Crawford. He is survived by one daughter, Susan Crawford, of Tallahassee; and two grandchildren, Chloe Nelson and Jacob Nelson of Tallahassee. Other survivors include brothers, Jeff Crawford, Junior (Katherine), Larry Crawford (Glenda), and Tim Crawford (Jan), several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Marianna. Interment will follow in Cypress Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Homes Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service at the church. Please note that all times are Central Standard Time. The family requests that flowers be omitted. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home or to First United Methodist Church, Marianna.
