Charles William Sawyer, Sr, “Buster” of Malone, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Buster was born on February 14, 1941, in Chattahoochee, FL, to Russel and Octavia Sawyer.
Buster served in the United States Navy from 1959-1963. After his honorable discharge, he became a truck driver with LEHIGH Furniture Company for 30 years where he received the One Million Mile Safe Driver Award. After his departure from LEHIGH, he also drove for Walmart for 12 years and received the Five Hundred Thousand Mile Safe Driver Award. In his retirement, Buster enjoyed spending time at his fish camp is Sumatra, FL. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Malone.
Buster is preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Miram Bailey; two sisters-in-law: Merita Fears and Vivian Fears Ford; and one brother-in-law: Alex Fears, Jr.
Buster is survived by the love of his life, Patricia Fears Sawyer, of 58 years; one son, Charles William Sawyer, Jr. “Chuck” and wife Christina of Platte City, Missouri; one granddaughter: Emma Claire Wangle and husband Jake of Malone; sister, Betty Sawyer of Malone; one brother, Tom Sawyer (Derone) of Screven, GA; one brother-in-law: Larry Ford (Ann) of Greenwood; and three special nieces: Lisa Ford Shiflett (Michael) and Donna Ford Rogers (Rhett) of Malone; Allison Ford Stoutamire (Kenneth) of Marianna, and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends Monday, August 30, 2021, from 5-7 pm at James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel, Marianna, FL.
Funeral services will be at Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, FL, on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 10 a.m. with Brother Ed Ham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
