James & Sikes Funeral Homes Maddox Chapel 4278 Lafayette Street Marianna, Florida 32446 850-482-2332 Betty Jean McDaniel of Sneads, FL, went to her heavenly home on August, 19, 2013. Born in Jackson County on May 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Vera and Lee Plair. Betty Jean was a graduate of Sneads High School Class of l956. In April of her senior year, with classmates in attendance, she married the love of her life, Sam McDaniel. During their 55 years of marriage, they loved life, people, travel, gospel music, and to grow and share things from their garden with their neighbors. Betty lived most of her life in Sneads, a community she loved. She worked at Florida State Hospital where, after thirty-three years of service she retired as a Medical Unit Supervisor. She was a person that found much satisfaction in serving others and her community. She served as a Pink Lady for the Jackson Hospital Auxiliary for eleven years and was currently serving in her second term as president. When the hospital was renovated, she delighted in playing a major role in the opening of the new gift shop. She was a unifier and could bring people together with such ease and simplicity. She was involved in the Sneads Carlisle Rose Garden Club for over l8 years. She was a former president and was to have served as vice-president for the upcoming year. Her love of flowers and knowledge of plants served her well in the Garden Club and in life. She was an excellent cook and baked amazing wedding and birthday cakes. Her family and friends enjoyed her wonderful home cooking and she was known in the community for sharing food with others when there was a need. She was a founding member of Victory Baptist Church and had volunteered at Victory Christian Academy for years. She taught children's Sunday School at Victory and other churches for over fifty years. She loved God's Word and made it a lamp unto her feet and a light unto her path. She loved sharing about her Savior and had a deep and abiding faith. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. CST. Friday, August 23 at Sneads Assembly of God Church, 2062 River Road, Sneads, FL. with Revs. Jack Howell & David Pipping officiating. Burial will follow at Dykes Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing. Family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 22, from 5-7 pm CST at Sneads Assembly of God Church in Sneads. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera and Lee Plair; and her husband, Sam McDaniel. She is survived by three sons, Ralph McDaniel and wife, Brenda, of Duncan, OK; Scott McDaniel of Tucson, AZ; Greg McDaniel and wife, Kelly, of Marianna, FL; her brother, Don Plair, and wife, Avis; her brother-in-law, Otis McDaniel, and wife, Shirley; grandchildren John McDaniel and wife, Lynn; Christopher McDaniel, and wife, Kara; Kaleigh Capogna, and husband, Anthony; Mathew McDaniel and fiancée Ashley Gingerich; Sam McDaniel, Mickey Cassidy, Tommy Cassidy, Terry Cassidy; great grandchildren, Brittny McDaniel, Caleb McDaniel, Hunter Sellers, Landon Sellers, and Gabbi Sellers, Chelsea McDaniel, Christopher McDaniel, and Audrey Capogna.
