Betty Lou Rooks Cass, 83, of Marianna died September 7, 2022 at her residence.
She was born February 2, 1939 in Jackson County to Ruby and Clayton Rooks Sr. Betty received her degree in psychology with a specialty in counseling from Troy University. She then went to work for the Jackson County School Board where she worked primarily at Cottondale Elementary for 33 years until her retirement. On December 13, 1962, Betty married the love of her life, Ernie in Jacksonville, Florida. Traveling was one of Betty’s favorite activities and she even lived in Japan and Guam before settling back home in Jackson County. Through all the seasons of her life, her faith never wavered. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Lee Chance; father, Clayton Odell Rooks Sr,; son, Jay D. Rooks; brother, Clayton Buddy Rooks Jr. (wife Ellie Rooks).
She is survived by her husband, Ernie Cass; son, Brian Cass and wife, Stella of Alford; son, Mike Cass of Fort Myers; granddaughter, Rebecca Cass; grandsons, Laron Cass, Carter Cass, Taylor Cass, Ryan Cass; brothers, Jackie Rooks and wife, Rhonda of Marianna, Doyle Rooks and wife, Judy of Lake City; sister, Carolyn Nobels of Marianna; and sister-in-law, Ellie Rooks of Marianna.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the church.
Funeral services will be graveside, Friday, 3 PM at Sink Creek Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
