Esther Bernice Oliver Carroll, affectionately known as "Aunt Bernice" of Centre, Alabama passed away Monday, July 28, 2008. "Aunt Bernice", was born March 20, 1917 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late William White and Opsie Davidson Oliver. She graduated from nursing school as a registered nurse in 1945 and retired from Industrial Nursing with International Paper in Panama City, Florida in 1981. An advocate of volunteer service in the community and served with AARP, Widowed Persons Services and the American Red Cross for many years after retiring. Preceded in death by her husband Benson James Carroll. She is survived by three children Barbara Rich of Cushing, OK; Belinda Pringle of Centre, AL and one son Benson James Carroll II of Carmel Valley, CA; four grandchildren Andrew Barron Jackson III of Tampa, FL; Brian David Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; Carroll Deahl Wilson of Peachtree City, GA; Michael Rich of Knoxville, TN; two great granddaughters Madelyn Nichole Jackson of Jacksonville, FL and Claire Elizabeth Wilson of Peachtree City, GA. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Union Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Padgett officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family request memorials be made in her memory to your local American Red Cross Chapter.
