He was born in Houston County on January 6, 1944. Mr. Oliver was retired from Jackson County Road Dept. where he was employed for 19 years. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty (Calloway) Oliver; his children, Gina Skipper and her husband Danny of Malone, Amy Frye and her husband Gerry of Bascom, and Ashlee Brazeau and her husband Matthew of Douglas, Massachusetts. He is survived by 7 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Conrad of Bascom , a sister, Roberta Bolen of New Mexico. He is predeceased by his son Robin Oliver who was 28 years of age; and a sister Charlotte Henry. Mr. Oliver attended Friendship Methodist Church in Gordon, Alabama. He was a devoted and caring husband to his wife. The greatest joy and honor of his life was being a daddy and a pa. His best times were spent with his loving family. Ben was a quiet and gentle man and his children and grandchildren loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, near Grangerburg, AL., with the Rev. Raymond Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends, Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at James and Sikes Maddox Chapel.
