James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Arthur L. Basford, 82, of Two Egg died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his home. A life long resident of Jackson County, Mr. Basford was a US Army veteran. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, attended Chipola College, obtained a BS degree from Troy State Teachers College and a Masters degree from Florida State University. He served as Superintendent of Sunland Center and later retired as Assistant Superintendent. Arthur was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Gertrude Hatcher Basford. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Vera Mae Basford of Two Egg; one son, Scott Basford and wife, Beth of Two Egg; one daughter, Phyllis Kirkland and husband, David of Tallahassee; one brother, Sidney "Max" Basford of Lovedale; one sister, Lenora Broome of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Ashleigh-Anne Hughes and husband, Matthew of Jackson, TN., Katie Mitchell and husband, Brian of Marianna, Kelly Thomas and husband, Michael, Carrie Davis and husband, Justin all of Tallahassee; Jeffrey Basford and special friend Sydney Bodden both of Two Egg; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Mitchell and Garrison Mitchell both of Marianna, Kyndall Hughes of Jackson, TN. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, October 11, 2013 at Trinity Baptist Church in Marianna with Revs. Dr. Steve Canada & Roland Rabon officiating. Interment will follow in the Lovedale Baptist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Flowers accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Lovedale Baptist Church Building Fund, Trinity Baptist or Emerald Coast Hospice.
