Annette B. Phillips, age 71, of Bascom, Florida, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. She was born February 1936, in Abington, Pennsylvania. She attended Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey, and DeKalb College in Decatur, Georgia. She lived in many places throughout her life including Kansas, Washington D.C., Charleston, South Carolina, Georgia, Petersburg, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Travel was her great love as well as playing the piano, organ, accordion, and viola. Her work included clerk and finger print technician for the FBI, tax examiner for the IRS, and many years as a medical transcriptionist and coder for hospitals in the many places she lived while traveling with her husband, Charles Phillips, who was in the United States Air Force and then, Department of Justice. She dearly loved nature, parks, and her pets. Annette is survived by her loving husband, Charles Phillips of Bascom, son James and wife Denise of Illinois, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, an older brother, Walter Sprague, two sisters, Ruth Lewis and Evelyn Shoemaker, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ulysses and Mabel Black of Pennsylvania, brother, Frank, son, John and daughter, Marybeth. Annette was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Bascom and had worked in several mission churches over the years. She and Charles were also foster parents in Atlanta, Georgia. The family wishes to thank everyone who assisted throughout her long illness, those who came to visit, and those who telephoned faithfully. You are lovingly remembered. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. EST, Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Buckhorn United Methodist Cemetery near Dexter, Ga. The family will receive friends in Marianna, Monday from 6-8 p.m. CST at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. The family will receive friends in Dublin, Ga.
