James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Ann Marie Grant, date of birth 9/8/1930 died peacefully at her home Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the care of her family. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wallace Grant, her mother, Maggie Mae Grant Nichols, her brother, Wallace Hill Grant, and her nephew, John Wallace Grant II. She is survived by her sister in law, Sarah Grant, her nieces, Gwen Grant Williams (Mark), Mary Leigh Grant Dudley (William) and nephew Michael Glen Grant, three great nieces and three great nephews. Ms. Grant was a teacher at Greenwood School and Malone Elementary School. She was an avid historian and researched genealogy of the Grant and Bevis family. She was the author of two books on the history of Bascom and the Bevis family; and was working on a book of poetry at the time of her death. Ms Grant was a lifetime member of The Bascom United Methodist Church. She was a gentle person who cherished being at home and caring for animals. She loved her family and inspired them with her continuing optimism and the belief that there is always something in the future to look forward to. She quietly touched the lives of her many students and friends. Graveside Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Bascom United Methodist Cemetery with Pastor Wendall Beall officiating. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will direct. No Visitation is planned In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bevis Family Scholarship Committee c/o Betty Ann Alter or to the Bascom United Methodist Church.
