Albert Douglas Barber, 88, of Cottondale passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Barber was born September 21, 1926 in Cottondale, FL to Roy Douglas and Eula Shores Barber. He was a graduate of Cottondale High School and served in the U. S. Army. After serving his country, he returned to his wife, Evelyn Barber, where they made a wonderful life together. He and his family owned and operated Barber Brothers Dairy. He was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Fishing and hunting were his favorite pastimes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Glass Barber, his parents, Roy Douglas and Eula Shores Barber, a brother, William "Bill" Barber, a sister, Avalyn Gail Barber and a granddaughter, Jessica Ann Ball. Survivors include one son, John Douglas Barber and wife, Gloria of Tallahassee; five daughters, Sherry Gilbert and husband, Charles of Cottondale, Rebecca Hempstead and husband, Gene of Quincy, Elizabeth Branning and husband, Dale of Cottondale, Jacqueline Ball and husband, Greg of Cottondale, Virginia Martin and husband, George of Hoover, AL, two brothers, Paul and Don Barber, one sister-in-law, Sharon Barber; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Rich Elligson and Mike Hawes officiating. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery in Cottondale with military honors. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. The family requests any donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or Piney Grove Baptist Church.
